You are What You Eat

Lets continue this week, by looking at another way in which we can build up our spiritual stamina or endurance.

Remember, that as believers, we are not running a 100m race where speed is of the essence, but rather a long distance, ultra- marathon.

And for such a race, we know that endurance is the key.

I am sure youve heard the saying, You are what you eat?

It is a fact that eating the right kinds and right amounts of foods (right combination of proteins, carbohydrates and fats), will not only sustain our physical bodies and promote sound health, but also release the right amounts of energy in your body.

And it is this energy that will enhance our endurance levels.

Well, as believers, our spiritual food is Gods Word and it is vital that we consume spiritual food on a daily basis, for spiritual strength and endurance.

Look at what Proverbs 4:20-22 (NKJV) says, My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

In other words, we must pay special attention to what we are seeing with our eyes and hearing with our ears.

Remember, that we are spirit, soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23) and it is vital that we look after and take care of every part of our being.

Just like we ought to take care of our physical bodies by eating clean, exercising and resting our bodies, so too our souls.

I generally find that waking up early in the morning and feeding on Gods Word, is what works for me.

It is the first thing that I hear with my ears and see with my eyes and the first thing that I rehearse in my heart.

I also like to have my marking pens and highlighters with me while reading and studying the Word as well as a book to record and write scriptures that resonate in my spirit and also to record whatever the Lord is saying to me.

Remember, Gods word is living and powerful (Hebrews 4:12) and most of the times, God speaks to us through His Word.

The amazing thing about your spirit is that it knows no limits.

So, the more you feed it the Word, the more it receives and the stronger you become as a believer.

And the stronger you become as a believer, the more you are able to endure in life.

When Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights, He was tempted by satan three times, and on all three occasions He was able to endure and overcome, because He spoke the Word back to His adversary. (Luke 4:1-13).

During His three and half years of ministry, He was so full of the Word that He was able to triumph over each and every attack He suffered.

Jesus was the walking, talking personification of the Word and it was this that enabled Him to persevere and endure every hardship in His life.

Friend, let me encourage you today. You may have a Bible in your house, but having a Bible is not going to help you.

You have to set time aside to open it and to read it and then allow God to reveal Himself to you, through His Word.

He so wants to speak to you today through His Word, which is His love letter to you.

And He wants to tell you that you are amazing and that he is madly in love with you.

I guarantee you, that your life will be radically changed.

You will feel so alive in God and so full of hope and courage that no matter what life may throw your way, you will overcome because of the enduring power of Gods Word in you.

After all, you are what you eat!

DECLARATION:

As I feed on Gods Word, I will become stronger and able to endure every difficulty and hardship in life.
